Well, of course fanart is art, and people like it because they recognise what's being drawn in the sense that they know who the character is right away because it's from some mainstream thing. But yeah I kinda dislike fanart of mainstream stuff now...or I'm bored of it and most just do it for the popularity and views anyway, for something that's not even completely theirs. And yeah, people mimic their idols styles or, god forbid, they traced or copied a screenshot or something, and homg dA actually allows vectoring, pff no tracing, of pictures. Which is really annoying, I don't think tracing's art that's for sure. No expression or emotion from the tracer's side heh. And who knows, maybe some retard's tracing our original stuff >< and dA allows that. Which is fucked up. Or...omfg when people edit anime screenshots and says it's their new fan character/oc omfgggg I hate seeing those, and people steal your original stuff for their rp characters [which obviously is them lacking originality and effort to use their imagination or draw/request the character image and are basically depicting someone else's character as their own, and it just stays like that, just them using an image of a character that can never be made into their own no matter how hard they try]. It makes me sick and I've seen it happen to myself and a friend and a few more.
I always used to think I was generic, but oddly enough I don't think so now, I was only ever generic when I copied CardCaptors pictures in primary school and then I learnt how to draw anime people and went away doing my own drawings that didn't actually look like the style I practiced drawing/copying at all. I even posed stuff myself that time, you never see me copy a picture as fanart, I would see the picture and just pose it different X3 I learned fast away from copying exactly what I saw, and it was whatever I felt like doing [and drew crappy eyes YAY]. Some personal art there depicting another's character. And I still do it now, nothing wrong with that. But I depict friends' characters mostly now, it's more fun and there's more characters I like to draw that aren't from some popular overrated crap. That and draw my own stuff, like I have ended up doing most of my life because of my rping.
But yeah generic stuff's for the underdeveloped artist, so is tracing and copying. And all that means is they're still children really. >_> Though I'll admit it takes skill to mimic of sorts. But it takes more skill to think up your own colouring and drawing style and your own characters. So in other words, people like them need to use their imagination more. A lot more. -.-

I'd like to have something colored, but I don't wanna color it... and I'd still have to draw it, but I think I could get it to you... like, in a day.

Also, as far as fan art goes, I really REALLY love seeing people's original art, and original styles, but If people are inspired by another's characters, and drawings/art style, then I am glad that they are drawing. I just really try and be supportive, Honestly, I LOVE fan art. Sometimes I get a little disappionted when I see someone not trying to break out into their own thing, but mostly just because I think that doing so is a big step, and a really good thing for an artist to do. But if they have the same style and eventually break out into their own thaing than HAPPINESS! If not then... ehhh... well good for them. At least their still drawing. But I don't really think we have the right to say what IS art and what ISN'T art. xD
It's something I get really worked up about, actually. xDDD
It's the only thing I think I've ever ranted about! 8D
But yeah. That's my opinion.

as far as the fanart stuff goes, i agree with you completely. I noticed that most people with alot of views have alot of fanart, even if there art was all great.

Ive even thought of doing that myself, just for page view... but i backed... because im lazy ><....and because it is wrong! yeah...thats why...

Fanart... I'm not too keen on fanart myself. Well I don't mind it, however it's always the mainstream stuff that gets all the attention if drawn well. Or something like that. Fans go crazy for that stuff. I'd never do fanart for attention, because that's just unwanted attention, and once you get stuck with drawing fanart for a while. The fans that watched you for fanart think that you'll just draw the fanart, things they like. And then the original stuff you draw won't get much attention.

I prefer original characters than fanart.. Because original characters come from the soul of their creator. And things like those are better than fanart alone. In my opinion. And Shinsei has pretty much said what I was gonna say too, heheh.

It's a matter of tastes I guess, everyone's different.

xD nah man you stayed on the point. And tell me about it ... vectoring.. is.. ARHHH *stabs* I subscribed to someone thinking their art was ubah then all of a sudden I find out theyre vectoring and man was I angry.
At least when I run out of ideas for poses, i look at different anime poses and try and manipulate it to be my own - i dont use EXACT poses. Remember that person on DA when I think i was on mic with yer sis and she called you into the room and practically all her work was traced but she said "no ref used" and stuff? oh lulz, shes got like.. 20 pvs + and she thinks shes so top.. retard.

yeah youre exactly right. When I did a contest entry for Bleach.. my gallery got a lot of attention, but then i stopped drawing Bleach stuff and all my watchers dissapeared - now I'm back into fanart and they all come back.. it shocked me to to say the least.

And same, and my sis does that too, well particularly her she needs refs for poses because she can't makeone from the top of her head too well and she doesn't practice drawing or anything half as much as I do XD It's a hobbie I take up for most of my day XD
